This holiday season, our crew at Blue Umbrella Waterproofing traded in our tools for hairnets and assembly lines. It was one of the best decisions we made all year.
Our owner and several team members volunteered at Liquid Church’s annual Christmas Outreach, a massive weekend event held across multiple locations throughout New Jersey. The goal? Pack over one million meals for families facing hunger around the world. As a local waterproofing company that’s spent years serving homeowners across the state, we were proud to give back to the community that’s supported us.
“It felt good to step away from work for a day and support something that really matters. Events like this remind you how much impact people can have when they show up together..”
-Steve Karlik, Owner & Founder of Blue Umbrella Waterproofing
A Million Meals in One Weekend
Liquid Church partnered with Rise Against Hunger, an international nonprofit working to end chronic malnutrition in places like Zambia and other developing nations. Volunteers from all over New Jersey (families, students, church groups, and local businesses like ours) came together to measure rice, seal bags, and box up meals that will actually reach people who need them.
It was loud, fast-paced, and honestly a lot of fun. There’s something energizing about standing shoulder-to-shoulder with strangers who all showed up for the same reason.
Helping New Jersey Families Closer to Home
The outreach wasn’t just about global hunger relief. Liquid Church also ran its annual Gifts for Kids Toy Drive, collecting new toys for children in family services programs right here in New Jersey. For families going through a tough stretch financially, these donations can make a real difference during the holidays.
Getting to contribute to both efforts, one that reaches across the globe and one that stays local, made the day feel that much more worthwhile.
Why Community Matters to a Local Business
At Blue Umbrella Waterproofing, we spend most of our time helping New Jersey homeowners protect their basements and foundations from water damage. Whether it’s basement waterproofing, crawl space encapsulation, or foundation repair, our work is all about keeping homes safe and dry. That’s our day job, and we take it seriously.
But being part of this community means more than just the work we do on job sites. Showing up when it matters, lending a hand where we can, supporting the people and organizations doing good… that’s part of who we are. The holiday season just makes it easier to act on.
How You Can Get Involved
If this kind of thing sounds like something you’d want to be part of, here are a few ways to jump in.
Volunteer with Liquid Church. They host community outreach events throughout the year, not just at Christmas. The meal-packing weekends are a great entry point if you want to show up, work alongside others, and know your time made a tangible difference.
Support Rise Against Hunger. This international hunger relief organization works year-round to fight chronic malnutrition through meal programs, education, and sustainable development. Donations and volunteer hours go a long way, even outside the holiday rush.
Join the Gifts for Kids Toy Drive. Every year, Liquid Church collects new toys for children in family services across New Jersey. It’s a simple, direct way to help local families who could use a little extra support during the holidays.
Thank You from Our Basement Waterproofing Team
Huge thanks to Liquid Church, Rise Against Hunger, and the thousands of volunteers who made this weekend happen. It was well-organized, high-energy, and genuinely impactful.
From all of us at Blue Umbrella Waterproofing, we’re grateful to be part of a New Jersey community that shows up for each other. If you’re a homeowner in the area looking for a trusted waterproofing team that cares about more than just the job, we’d love to hear from you. In the meantime, we’re looking forward to the next opportunity to give back.
