The Model 53 is a cast-iron, corrosion-resistant pump that is water and dust-tight, and has a 3-year warranty. An upgrade over the Model 53 is Zoeller's Model 63, which has all of Model 53's strengths and more, and comes with a 3-year warranty.

Blue Angel's sump pumps are the best there are. We use the F50CIS professional-grade sump pump. The 1/2 horsepower, cast-iron sump pump is ultra quiet, pumps up to 70 gallons of water a minute, and has a 5-year warranty. An alternative is Blue Angel's premium-stainless steel sump pump, the SSF50S. The SSF50S' stainless steel housing extends the life of the sump pump. It also has a 5-year limited warranty.

1. How long do sump pumps usually last?
Most high-quality sump pumps last seven to 10 years, depending on usage and maintenance. We install professional-grade Zoeller and Blue Angel pumps designed for heavy-duty performance. With regular inspections, testing, and cleaning, they can often operate well beyond a decade.
Note that some sump pump models, including the Zoeller Model 53, require float switch replacement every three to five years, depending on how often the pump runs. This simple job is best handled by a professional to ensure the new switch is watertight and calibrated correctly.
2. How do I know if my sump pump needs to be replaced?
If you notice signs your sump pump is failing—including unusual noises, frequent cycling, rust, or water remaining in the pit after heavy rain—it may be time for a replacement. We can test the pump, check the float switch and discharge line, and determine whether repair or replacement is the better option.
3. What size or horsepower sump pump do I need for my basement?
The most common residential sump pump sizes range from 1/4 to 1 horsepower. The ideal size depends on your basement’s square footage, water volume, and discharge distance.
We typically recommend 1/3 or 1/2 horsepower pumps for most New Jersey homes, but the right size is never based on guesswork. Our team will evaluate your property to ensure the system can handle peak water levels.
4. How often should I test or maintain my sump pump?
We recommend testing your sump pump every three months and having it professionally serviced once a year. Testing is easy. Simply pour a bucket of water into the sump pit to raise the float switch. The pump should activate and drain the water. You can also manually trigger the pump by lifting the float switch by hand.
Listen for a humming sound to confirm the motor is working. Other maintenance tasks include cleaning debris from the pit, flushing the discharge line, and confirming the check valve is working properly.
5. Should I have a battery backup sump pump installed?
